Whoopee, a blog for shroomers... It's about time. Looking forward to the posts and can you tell me, how is the season looking in London at the moment? What have you been finding and have you had any unusual finds this season?

Hi Velvet Shank,

It depends on where you are in London. Hampstead Heath at present is a tad dry though I have had some nice Hen of the woods ove rthe past few weeks. Look out for these at the base of oak in your local park.

Good luck shanker

Hi All!

I'm from west London. Great to have a blog chat thingy.

I feel so alone sometimes. No one understands my obsession with the shrooms. I've been foraging since I was 5 with my mummuy (having European connections always helps). Although I am technically an ammatuer and would love to learn more - maily due to the fact that no one in my circle undertstand how cool foraging is!

It seems to me there has been a drought this season. Has anyone any idea why? I have my patches for Parasole mushrooms in Richmond Park (truly delicious)- but so far have seen nothing! The seasons seem to be moving back a month!

Also.. I must check my spelling.

Hi Gabi,

I know some people just don't get it do they ? But thats a good thing as if everyone were into foraging then there would be no shrooms left.

It has been an OK season, if looking for edibles, then the Chantarelles, hedgehogs and Horn of Plenty did arrive quite early during the summer and late summer. Boletes in my estimation had a poor year, pretty much as they did last year. These fungi prefer longer hot periods folowed by rain. Good fruitings of Chicken of the woods, during May though. If you can't find the fungi you are used to eating because of poor conditions, something else would of taken its place, broaden your fungi horizons.

come on mate,
start blogging!

Sorry mate, I've been away, plus this blog might as well be buried fathoms beneath the deepest ocean as I have had it up ages and only had 6 comments, no-one is aware of it. The website is currently under renewal and the blog will be a more prominent feature. So how long have you been running this underground restaurant ?
